Sun. June 22, 2014  by Denny Patterson

Chicago really appreciates different genres of music... I really look forward to playing new stuff in Chicago.
Hector Fonseca
Internationally acclaimed DJ Hector Fonseca is more than just another DJ. He's also a highly successful musician who has found success both in the studio and in clubs. Fonseca has been dubbed by those in the industry as the "total package DJ."

Born and raised in New York City the sexy Puerto Rican, a former model, brings a unique blend of funky rhythms, tribal sexiness and electronic edginess. As a coveted celebrity remixer, Fonseca has charted over 10 Official Billboard #1 dance remixes for Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Beyonce.

Fonseca returns to Chicago in celebration of Pride at Hydrate Nightclub.

DP: (Denny Patterson) What can we expect from you at Hydrate for Pride?

HF: The Fonseca/Audio4play sound. It's house, tribal progressive and some vocals. I have a bunch of brand new mixes I will debut there.

DP: What do you hope people gain from your music?

HF: Above all, that they have fun. I also aim to change things up for them as I know a lot sounds the same right now

DP: What does the LGBT community personally mean to you?

HF: Support that came from the very beginning and still continues 15 years later. I do whatever I can to give back to show my appreciation through charity work and to show love by playing in places that don't necessarily have a big Circuit Party community.

DP: How many times have you performed in Chicago? Have these all been Chicago Pride related events?

HF: I've been playing a lot in recent years. Hydrate has been my home and my biggest supporters. I have also played some big outdoors events for Pride with Kerli and at the amazing Red Bull stage.

DP: What do you look forward to the most about returning to Chicago?

HF: The diversity within the community. Chicago really appreciates different genres of music whether it is Circuit, House, EDM, Traps and others. They really appreciate all music. That is a unique and special thing about the city. I really look forward to playing new stuff in Chicago.

DP: How long have you been a professional DJ?

For 15 years now. I'm kind of in the middle with most International DJs in our scene either at a few years or over 20 years into it.

DP: Why did you quit your acting/modeling career to pursuing DJing?

HF: I always felt a strong tie to music. I was thrust into modeling and acting by a scout at a young age. I gave it a go, but found it to be monotonous and not really fulfilling. So, I found my way back to music within a few years.

DP: Where are you originally from and what towns do you DJ the most at?

HF: Born in the Bronx and grew up for a bit just outside New York City in New Jersey and also in Boston. I've played all over the world, but recently I tend to play a lot in New York, Boston, Washington D.C., Las Vegas, Tampa and Chicago.

DP: Tell me how your passion for DJ came about.

HF: Mainly being a club kid in New York City and hearing great DJs like Junior Vasquez, Danny Tenaglia, Steve Lawler, Tom Stephan and Peter Rauhofer, who became my mentor. They all inspired me to do this.

DP: How does Chicago differ from where you mainly perform?

HF: The diversity and energy within the community. I know when I play in Chicago, all different kinds of kids will come out and will be ready to go on a journey through different genres with both classics and new sounds. It's exciting performing in Chicago. I love it!

DJ Hector Fonseca spins the Post-Pride Fest Party at Hydrate Nightclub, 3458 N. Halsted, Sunday, June 22. The party starts at 10 p.m., featuring hot dancers wearing the latest in PUMP Underwear designs.
