Not to make with the hyperbole, but this is seriously the best week in geekdom ever! Well, if not, this week is definitely setting the bar very high for the rest of the year. The thing that's on most gay geeks minds today is the release of Young Avengers volume 2, featuring my personal favorite gay comic couple Wiccan and Hulkling. While I personally loved the team dynamic of the original run by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung, this second volume promises to deliver some major awesome.

"The original Young Avengers is about being sixteen," said volume 2 writer Kieron Gillen at the 2012 New York Comic Con Avengers Panel. "My Young Avengers is about being eighteen, trying to be a hero yourself. It's about the ideal of the Avengers and about changing the world because you have to!" And while it took the final issue of Heinberg's run to get our boys Billy and Teddy to finally kiss on panel, our favorite super-powered fanboys will be locking lips in the first issue of Gillen's run.

If that weren't enough, this Friday sees the launch of NYC-based LGBT org Geeks OUT first Chicago event at Spin Nightclub, hosted by yours truly with some of my amazing/spectacular/uncanny friends, including AV Club's Oliver Sava. I just wrapped an interview with one of Geeks OUT board members Patrick Yacco which will be posted tomorrow. For more info on the event, click here.

Also, the return of Mohawk Storm. Alright, on to the issues:

Avengers #3 vol 6 $3.99
(W) Jonathan Hickman (A) Jerome Opena (CA) Dustin Weaver

'THE GARDEN' The birth of the New Adam. On Mars, the Battle between The Avengers and the Garden comes to a dramatic conclusion. 'If you want LIFE and all the good things living entails, then you'll have to earn it.' --Ex Nihilo

Batwoman #16 $2.99
(W) J. H. Williams, Haden Blackman (A/CA) J. H. Williams

This issue guest-stars everybody! In this penultimate chapter, everything that's been happening in BATWOMAN comes to a head! Plus, a new hero is introduced, and Wonder Woman fights monsters!

Gambit #8 vol 5 $2.99
(W) James Asmus (A) Pasqual Ferry (CA) Pasqual Ferry

Receiving a distress call from an imperiled ESU archaeology team, Gambit makes a detour on his way back to the Big Apple and heads to the Forever City! But how exactly will he outwit the hyper-evolved locals and snatch the students (and some loot) from their clutches?

Nightwing #16 vol 2 $2.99
(W) Kyle Higgins (A/CA) Eddy Barrows, Eber Ferreira

A 'DEATH OF THE FAMILY' tie-in! After the shocking events of last issue, it didn't seem like things could get much worse for Nightwing, but when The Joker's involved that's never a safe bet! Dick's past is about to burn down around him - literally!

Uncanny Avengers #3 $3.99
(W) Rick Remender (A) John Cassaday

Psylocke and Storm lead a new team of outcasts and scoundrels, including fan-favorite Puck, the villainous Spiral, and the mysterious Cluster. The first adversary to strike out from the darkness? X-legend BISHOP!

Wolverine and the X-Men #24 $3.99
(W) Jason Aaron (A) David Lopez, Alvaro Lopez (CA) Ramon K. Perez

DATE NIGHT! Kitty and Iceman! Storm and Wolverine?

Young Avengers #1 vol 2 $3.99
(W) Kieron Gillen (A/CA) Jamie McKelvie (VCA) Bryan Lee O'Malley

Legacy isn't a dirty word... but it's an irrelevant one. It's not important what our parents did. It matters what WE do. Someone has to save the world. You're someone. Do the math. The critically acclaimed team of Gillen/McKelvie/Wilson (with added Norton Sauce) decide to reinvent the teen superhero comic for the 21st century, uniting Wiccan, Hulkling and Hawkeye with Loki, Marvel Boy and Ms. America. No pressure. Young Avengers is as NOW! as the air in your lungs, and twice as vital. It's the book that knows Hyperbole is the BEST! THING! EVER!
