Elvis Crespo shakes his hips at Circuit Night Club this week on his Indestructible tour. The Puerto Rican Merengue singer known for his huge hit "Suavemente" is ready to heat things up for the Latino gay market with a tour across the country.
JN: (Jerry Nunn) Hola, Elvis! Last time I talked to you was at V Live in Chicago.
Elvis Crespo: Wow, I remember that.
JN: You put on such a good show there!
EC: Well, thank you very much.
JN: This is a smaller club than that. Is your band still going to be with you?
EC: It is a special show. You are going to see me with my same energy and stage presence. I will play a little of my history and my new album. I will present dancers and a good live production. I am very happy to be with this audience.
JN: You are reaching a new audience with the LGBT focused tour.
EC: It is a different audience but I am not going to change things very much. It is the same Elvis Crespo that people know, sensual dancing and singing.
JN: You have had gay fans all this time anyways. "Suavemente" was a big hit everywhere.
EC: Yes, that is why I don't see this tour as something different. I always feel that the gay audience supported my career and my songs.
JN: That is true but it is good that you support them by performing at a gay club for a change. That means a lot to people.
EC: Maybe in the past my team didn't see this opportunity because they didn't see a different audience as well. My current team now sees everything that is happening with gay rights and the LGBT community.
JN: La India played at Circuit before. Would you ever want to work with her? That seems like a good match!
EC: Of course, she is an excellent singer. I like her and she is a great artist. It would be nice to make a hit song with her in the future.
JN: Do you still talk to Grupo Mania?
EC: Yes, we are all still friends.
JN: Indestructible is your latest album with a little different sound to it correct?
EC: I presented a new sound but wanted to keep my style and move with the new times. My style you can feel throughout the music.
JN: The superhero cover on the album is fantastic. Do you like comic books?
EC: (laughs) I like Iron Man. He is my favorite because I like the Robert Downey Junior performance in the film.
JN: Are you going to sing my favorite song on the new album "Hey Dude?"
EC: Of course, you like it? I have to be careful what I can fit into the set because it is a short show and I have to play the past hits. Circuit requested that I play the old songs and I want to do the new ones as well. I will try to do a little bit of everything.
JN: Looking forward to seeing you perform live again!
