Edgard Madera, a.k.a. DJ Ed Wood, continues to be a rising star in the house and circuit club scene around the world.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Madera now calls Chicago home.
In 2000, he stepped into the house music scene as DJ Ed Wood. Today, he performs some of the hottest brand events and clubs around Puerto Rico and the U.S. Most recently, he performed at Hydrate Nightclub over Market Days weekend.
The 39-year-old sensation is best known for creating a unique atmosphere with banging progressive/tribal house beats that always energizes the crowd.
This Sunday, DJ Ed Wood provides the beats for “The Haunted House of Barbie" presented by Luxuria Productions at Fantasy Nightclub in Chicago’s Northalsted neighborhood.
Here DJ Ed Wood answers a few questions.
GP: How would you describe your sound?
EW: My sound is very energetic, but it depends on my audience. My main goal is to read the crowd and keep everyone dancing and having a good time.
GP: Where do you find your inspiration?
EW: My biggest inspiration has been DJ Nina Flowers. We are both from Puerto Rico. When we first met I was playing in a small gay bar in Puerto Rico and Nina Flowers was playing at the biggest clubs there. I heard her sound and was inspired to find my own sound and grow to where I could eventually play the big clubs as well.
GP: Who is your favorite DJ or musician?
EW: Chus Esteban a.k.a. DJ Chus, and, of course, DJ Abel.
GP: What can we expect from you this weekend at Fantasy Nightclub?
EW: This weekend will be very fun, it will be the haunted mansion of Barbie. Expect vocals with music that will keep you dancing.
GP: You've performed at many big parties, do you have any favorites?
EW: One of my favorites is Atlanta Pride.
GP: What type of event or venue do you prefer?
EW: I prefer clubs or closed venues, you have more connections with the crowd.
GP: Now a quick round of personal questions. Single, married or dating?
EW: Recently engaged.
GP: What do you find most attractive in a partner?
EW: Eyes, character and intelligence.
GP: Boxers or briefs?
EW: Briefs or less, of course.
GP: How do you spend your free time?
EW: Traveling with friends and spending time with my fiancée.
GP: After Fantasy this weekend, what’s next for you?
EW: My upcoming gigs will be on 29th of October at Distrkt C in Washington DC, 30th of October at Future Club in Atlanta and 31st of October at Circo Club in Puerto Rico.
