I've been having such an awesome time meeting great, talented people, going to openings, scoping out surf hotties (I'll explain later), and just all around celebrating, laughing, and making new friends.
I recently joined Chicago's Surfrider Chapter. I know it sounds crazy and out there, but I first fell in love with surfing when I was off the coast of Coffs Harbour in Australia. So, when I found out that a surf chapter was forming in the city after surfing became legal last summer, I just had to join. We actually had our first event at Barbara and Barbara Art Gallery in Ukranian Village to promote the chapter and showcase artwork by fellow Midwestern surf photographers. The art showing was a great way to introduce the chapter to prospective members and enjoy some art. Also, might I add that the art wasn't the only thing on display…plenty of hot surfers to take on Chicago's waves.
Macy's, Center on Halsted and Out Magazine threw a fashion soiree to celebrate the latest in men's fashion designs. This was a great way to kick off spring fashions and support the community. Of course my friend and fellow P.Y.G host committee member DJ Phil Da Beatz spinned the music while invitees shopped and mingled. Also, best part of the night…I won a Hugo Boss cologne set!!! Probably not so exciting to most, but seeing that I never win anything, it was almost equivalent to winning a trip to Disney World. So, I left happy and smelling good!
CS Magazine hosted a private opening of Primebar, 155 N. Wacker Drive. The opening was packed with media moguls, tastemakers, and the usual elite. I brought along my friends PR whiz Taryn Williams and interior designer Kip Rodrigue to check out the new pad. Spacious, hip, but still elegant and warm should be what you expect when you visit Primebar. The restaurant has an industrial feel with a sense of order and what's clean and organized. Plus, my friend Kip wasn't turning up his nose, so I'd say that's a plus.
Nike invited me to its new store preview cocktail party in Wicker Park. The store, Nike X St. Alfred, is a retail collaboration between Nike and Saint Alfred at 1529 N. Milwaukee. Saint Alfred, right next door at 1531 N. Milwaukee, is a definite stop for all your gym shoe needs and is a Lupe Fiasco favorite and has been featured on Kanye West's blog. The new store by Nike and Saint Alfred brings some flair and excitement to sportswear. Actually, Nike traveled the world to seek out artists to design their interpretation of different countries' sports teams. Interesting stuff! Also, every single guest got a chance to walk away with a custom T-shirt. So thanks Nike and St. Alfred for the invite. I'll be sure to sport my new shirt at your next event.
Until next time, have fun and be nice to each other!
