The hospitality industry runs strong by the Grand River just east of Lake Michigan. Grand Rapids is the longtime home to the historic Amway Grand Plaza at 187 Monroe Avenue NW, less than 10 miles from the airport. Part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, this property is included as one of the company's upper-upscale brands such as Embassy Suites by Hilton.

This building was originally The Pantlind Hotel before the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel took over to be renovated in 1981 and The Glass Tower was added in 1983. This gave 29 floors to explore and see spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.

The description of being iconic is often overused but in this case, it fits well in describing this powerful piece of real estate. There are 656 guest rooms throughout the venue with different levels to choose from for visitors. This is important when selecting a possible River View in the Glass Tower or a Pantlind Wing room within the hotel.

Friendly staff will assist in every way possible at the front desk and was found to be eager to help at the time of the visit. The rooms come equipped with Wi-Fi, a coffeemaker, bathroom amenities, ironing accessories and modern furniture.

This West Michigan hotel has something for everyone and gives no reason to leave the complex if so desired. The Plaza Essentials gift shop near the front desk sells unique souvenirs and visit the fourth floor of the Tower wing for Celeste Salon & Spa's cosmetic services. Work up an appetite in the exercise facilities and pool, then head to one of the in-house restaurants.

A scratch kitchen specializes in made-to-order fare in The Kitchen by Wolfgang Puck

and MDRD serves up Spanish-inspired entrees on the 27th floor.

Ruth's Chris Steak House specializes in meat and Starbucks Coffee Company will help travelers wake up on the first floor of the Pantlind Building.

For those looking to lift their spirits the Lumber Baron Bar has mixologists creating cocktails that spark up the taste buds. Rendezvous is aptly titled as a prime spot to meet up for drinks and has live music at select times to entertain guests. Bring your ID and for the IDC speakeasy balcony have a code to enter at the ready.

The in-house planners work overtime to run weddings and events that are scheduled on the regular inside the four ballrooms and 30 meeting rooms. On many weekends don't expect a quiet getaway as the atmosphere is usually loud and lively.

Finding a central location is important and this downtown area is bustling with things to do and see. The corner of Monroe and Pearl leads to a walkable entertainment district and the skywalk attached to the hotel allows access to several destinations without traveling outside.

This West Michigan staple has something for everyone and gives no reason to leave the complex if so desired. The Amway Grand Plaza has a great deal to offer with an outstanding immersive experience all located inside a majestic property.
