The beautiful city of Chattanooga is located in the southeastern part of Tennessee along the Appalachian Mountains. Now with direct flights from Chicago's O'hare International Airport to Chattanooga's Metropolitan Airport, it's easier now than ever to visit this southern fried state.

Ride service Uber makes a trip to the Downtown area from the airport a breeze and overall this charming destination is fairly walkable in scope.

Previously I had enjoyed a very corporate Westin hotel but this trip came equipped with much more character in the lodgings thanks to The Dwell Hotel at 120 East 10th Street. The historic building is owned by Marriott Bonvoy Hotels and welcomes all with a colorful rainbow flag waving in front. It is recognized as a World Rainbow Hotel and is a proud member of Design Hotels as well.

This boutique hotel, built in 1909, has 16 unique guest rooms and is an adult-only property, meaning over the age of 12 years old. This makes sense because the vintage decor and unique objects should be preserved away from harm and clumsy little fingers.

Take a trip through the decades as you explore the property and beware of a startling mannequin as you walk into the lounge. After a few cocktails at Matilda Midnight, the lonely traveler might make a new friend before you know it. Several members of the friendly and attentive staff currently identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community and will make visitors feel right at home.

This crew running this property think outside of the box by providing white noise machines and a creative, fully stocked amenities bar within each room including an electric tea kettle for those that like their wakeup morning drinks piping hot.

The subway tile-lined bathrooms are spacious with a soaking tub and bath salts to relax in after a long day. The themed rooms take a page from Trixie Mattel's book as the Pink Lady suite has the Barbie in your life surrounded with original art and bright wallpaper. The Tiki is an executive suite with a bar and a sitting room decorated with Golden Girl palm fronds. The Mod offers a fireplace and a city view. Check out the true-to-life photos found on the marriott.com website for more eye-popping rooms to choose such as The Tropicana and The Flamingo.

The hallways and shared spaces have been curated with a great deal of thought and money obviously. The sleek hardwood floors fit perfectly the vision of keeping this historic space well preserved and paired with decades of decorations.

There's a free continental breakfast offered every day along with a snack bar in the Solarium, which is available to be booked for private functions.

Chattown is an easily walkable city, but valet is offered at the Dwell if desired. Sometimes referred to as Gig City, Chattanooga boasts the fastest Internet in the Western Hemisphere and that will help one map out excursions. The staff at the Dwell Hotel will be happy to provide a printed map though if needed along with dining ideas and suggestions for nearby activities.

This mid-century modern hotel lives on prime real estate and is within a mile of the Tennessee Aquarium and the Hunter Museum of American Art.

Step back in time at this luxurious and stylish property fit for a queen by making a reservation at thedwellhotel.com or by calling 423-267-7866. You have found a new place to Dwell!
