C2E2 2014 - Friday Recap

There are fewer things more empowering than being a crowd of people almost exactly like you. Comic conventions are almost like the gay pride parade with their feeling of community and acceptance. No matter how many times I go to conventions over the years (or Pride for that matter), that feeling never leaves me. That feeling is especially palpable on the first day. The first day of a convention is always a little less busy in terms of events and a little less crowded in terms of people, which makes it the perfect day to get the lay of the land. Here are some of my highlights from the first day of C2E2:
Revolutionary Brewery – Galaxy Hero
Last year, Revolution Brewing crafted a beer especially for C2E2 called Galaxy Hero. The crisp and fresh IPA returns this year, on tap at every bar of the showfloor. I'm not big on sports, so comic book conventions are my big events during the year and my buddy Dorton and I treat day one like tailgating. We may have had a few of these tasty brews throughout the day.
National LGBT-geek organization Geeks OUT returns to C2E2 for the second time this year. As the event coordinator for Chicago, I was so happy to see my New York based brothers come back and the booth looks amazing. All weekend long, we'll have artists, writers, and creators at the booth to do signings and awesome merchandise. Stop by Booth 513 to hang out and to get more information about Saturday night's Mutant High Prom at Spin, C2E2's most epic queer party.
Doctor Who – Cosplay Scavenger Hunt
This weekend, my personal geek goal is to find a Doctor Who cosplayer for each of the eleven Doctors. Today I found 11 and 4. Think I'll find the other nine before the weekend's out?
Here are some of the cosplay highlights from the day:
Black Bolt (Marvel)
Spider-Man 2099 (Marvel)
Gotham's protectors: Batman, Red Robin, Nightwing, Batwoman
