Judge refuses bail reduction to man accused of Boystown threats
Chicago, IL -
A Lakeview man is accused of intimidating employees of gay bars in Boystown, promising that "Orlando will come to Chicago," according to transcripts read during his court appearance on Wednesday.
As first reported by CWBChicago, Shane Sleeper, 31, made numerous threats throughout February against staff at Roscoe's Tavern and Sidetrack, where he is accused of "making a shooting gesture" at a manager.
Transcripts of Sleeper's messages from Facebook, email, and voicemail were read aloud for the record: "I will bring harm and death"; "you will be shot"; "you're lucky I don't have a gun or people would be dead"; "Orlando will come to Chicago"; "If you don't kill yourself, I'm going to do it."
Sleeper is charged with four counts of misdemeanor electronic harassment; misdemeanor resisting police; misdemeanor assault; and misdemeanor phone harassment. At least four orders of protection have been issued against Sleeper to shield his alleged victims.
On Wednesday, Sleeper asked the judge to reduce his bail. Based on the threats his bail would remain at $300,000, the judge said.
