Along comes a Spider-Man for a Brand New Day

Clear the cobwebs; it's a Brand New Day for Spider-Man and a fresh start at night in theaters. There's no doubt that Spider-Man will be a box office smash and it will lead the audience to upcoming films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Avengers: Doomsday debuts in December of this year and Avengers: Secret Wars begins its battle in December of 2027. Hopefully the spider isn't squashed with such a full cinematic season of movie blockbusters on the slate for 2026.

Brand New Day is the fourth picture in the MCU Spider-Man series and is based on a comic book with the same title. Luckily, the plot doesn't require much homework to bring new viewers up to full speed.

The storyline begins four years after No Way Home with a heartfelt letter. Peter Parker is struggling with solitude and with navigating his job as a superhero.

His powers are on the fritz and his love life is in the gutter, which makes it a bad day to be Spider-Man. These are classic conflicts from Spidey's longtime history and this tale set in New York City is grounded in comic book culture.

Without being awkward, Brand New Day pays homage to his loyal fans while spinning a web to catch a whole new generation.

Phase Six succeeds because of a dynamic team behind the mask, including the cast and crew.

British actor Thomas Holland is having a strong year after playing Telemachus in The Odyssey and as Spider-Man, he carries the bulk of the movie on his shoulders.

He is also a huge fan of Spider-Man and has been crucial in the development of these projects.

His wife Zendaya is another player at the top of her game. She played Athena in The Odyssey and returns for MJ in Brand New Day.

While he's a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, he has made a few enemies over the years and supervillains were thrown into the mix to create conflict. There are cameos throughout the two hours and 25 minutes of Brand New Day and this serves as a reward for longtime fans of the amazing Spider-Man. As the credits roll, there's a section where historic Marvel creatives are thanked for their contributions.

Technically, this spider story is marvelous and deserves accolades. The red and blue costume by designer Sanja Milkovic Hays has a sheen that catches the eye and the sound department should earn a trophy for their outstanding work.

First written as a hero in 1962, Spider-Man has stood the test of time and he is more popular than ever these days. “This great power comes with great responsibility,” and Brand New Day should be commended for keeping the Spidey spirit alive after all this time.

Swing into a movie theater near you and remember not to spoil the spine-tingling surprises for others that surround Spider-Man's latest adventure.
