Karol G serves up a spicy reggaeton set at Soldier Field

Colombian singer Carolina Giraldo, better known as Karol G, kicked off her Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 24. Tickets sold so well that the concert start time was moved over an hour later to accommodate all the guests entering the stadium.

While waiting for the show to start, very important people were treated to a pop-up lounge provided by blue agave tequila brand Casa Dragones. Named after a cavalry from San Miguel de Allende, where Dragones is based, this woman-owned business was highlighted as Karol G's official tour specialty drink, named the Chellita Sunrise. Made with 200 Copas by Casa Dragones tequila, lime, mango, pineapple and pomegranate syrup, the refreshing signature cocktail kept eager fans cool before the heated entrance of the Latin pop princess.

Opener Elena Rose began her set accompanied by a five-piece band, including a harp player. Her message was to “choose love” as she sang empowering tracks like “Tututu” and “Alma.”

After a break where the sun set, a countdown appeared on the massive screens on both sides of the stage. Her loyal followers dressed in shades of orange screamed for her arrival and they were rewarded with pyrotechnics.

The Grammy Award winner entered with her troupe surrounding her in a cavernous backdrop for “Latina Forever.”

This tour was crafted from her 2025 record Tropicoqueta and this played well in a live setting thanks to reggaeton songs like “Un Gatito Me Llamo” and the title track. She reenacted the cover photo at one point by propping herself on top of three bongos.

The imagery didn't stop there. The costumes ranged in a rainbow of colors and Karol balanced a tall feather headdress while climbing a ladder to perch on top of a Guacamaya macaw parrot to sing “Papasito.”

A variety of Latin countries were celebrated throughout the evening and the powerful all-female mariachi band made a powerful statement for “Negrita De Mis Pesares” and “El Son De La Negra.”

Light-up lanyards added to the joyful atmosphere on a beautiful night in the Windy City. A runway from the front stage steps was decorated with large fronds and greenery to transport ticketholders to a lush forest similar to her birthplace of Medellín. This led to a water feature eventually uncovered in the middle of the venue where the goddess walked on water and splashed around with her dance team.

At one point Karol stopped to autograph a record and hug a few eager fans who pressed against the barricades hoping for a moment with the popular singer.

She closed the night with the tour-titled track “Viajando Por El Mundo” and her latest tune “Matadora.”

For those who wanted to keep the party going after the concert V Live Restaurant & Live Music on Kedzie Avenue provided a festive space until 4 a.m.

“La Bichota” earned her boss nickname thanks to a smartly curated set that played on the strengths and likability of the chart-topping performer. G will finish her ambitious two-night affair at Soldier Field on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
