AIDS Run & Walk Chicago unites thousands, raises over $400,000

Chicago, IL - More than 2,500 runners, walkers, volunteers raise over $400,000 for 32 organizations that support people living with HIV/AIDS as part of the 16th annual AIDS Run & Walk Chicago on Sunday, Oct. 1. 

The event, one of the city's high-profile fundraisers to combat HIV/AIDS, took participants in the event's 10K run and 5K run and walk along Chicago's lakeshore, starting and finishing at Soldier Field

WGN's Dean Richards served as emcee for the event. Congressman Mike Quigley and AIDS Foundation of Chicago CEO John Peller encouraged the participants before starting the 5K/10K Run at 8:30 Sunday morning.

Funds raised through AIDS Run & Walk Chicago will benefit programs and services for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and 31 other community organizations that serve the South, West and Far North sides of Chicago and surrounding counties.

Since it was established in 2001, AIDS Run & Walk Chicago has netted more than $5 million to battle the epidemic.
