In a victory for President Barack Obama, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Health Care Reform Bill by a 220-215 vote late Saturday clearing the way for the Senate to begin debate on the issue.

House Representatives from Illinois including Jan Schakowsky voted in favor of the bill. In a statement on the Congresswoman's web site, she says: "It is so important to make health care affordable for everyone. We are finally recognizing for the first time that health care is a right and should not impoverish people or cause them personal bankruptcies. People suffer the most when they lose their job because they also lose their care. This bill makes that practice a thing of the past and gives people peace of mind. I am looking forward to seeing the President sign the health care reform bill into law by the end of this year."

Only one Republican voted for the bill.
