Chicago, IL -
The Town Hall Police Station at 3600 N. Halsted St. was approved as an official City of Chicago landmark by the city council.
The former police station, which was built in 1907 and closed in 2010, is being transformed into the Midwest's first housing complex for LGBT seniors. Crews broke ground at the site in June.
According to Lakeview Patch, the Boystown development will keep its historic facade with Chicago officials approving the building's landmark status.
Heartland Housing Inc., which purchased the building from the city for $1, plans to transform the building and adjacent site into a 79-unit, $27 million apartment complex.
