Washington, DC -
According to breaking news just released from Politico.com, Senate Judiciary Committee Patrick Leahy (D-VT) said he will withhold his amendment to the immigration bill that would allow gay Americans to sponsor their foreign-born spouses for green cards.
Gay rights activists have taken issue with Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) when he vacillated on insisting that the amendment be part of the immigration bill.
As well, President Obama has also indicated that failure to include LGBT protections in the bill will not be a deal killer.
Including the amendment threatened to derail the entire legislation, as top Republican negotiators will not support the compromise if the amendment were included.
