American Idol and The Voice alum Frenchie Davis has come out as a lesbian.
"I wasn't out before the relationship, but I wasn't in. I dated men and women, though lesbians weren't feeling the bisexual thing. Now I'm in love with a woman I think I can be with forever," Davis told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Thursday.
Davis, who also starred in a number of musicals including a four-year run in the Broadway hit "Rent," went on to voice her support for gay men ahead of her performance at Chicago Pride Fest this Saturday.
"I love the gay boys. They have that awesome, masculine energy, but there's also something else going on as well," she said.
The R&B singer shot to fame on Fox's American Idol in 2003, but was disqualified as a semi-finalist after her topless photos surfaced.
In 2011 Davis appeared on the first season of the NBC hit television show The Voice where she auditioned by singing "I Kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry. She was selected by judge Christina Aguilera and advanced to the next round before eventually being cut.
