Olympia, Wash. -
Washington State Gov. Christine Gregoire, who just signed gay marriage into law, said she personally sent a letter to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie urging him to do the the same.
Gregoire sent the letter late last month, reported Bloomberg. Christie a Republican, while Gregoire is a Democrat.
"I have been on a personal journey, because while I am governor, I am also Catholic," she wrote. "I've reached a point where I have found my place."
Christie is facing down a state legislature on the verge of passing gay marriage this week, and across the bridge, the State of New York already allows it.
Christie has said that he thinks a referendum is a better way to change the law. Gregoire disagrees.
"Sometimes the majority doesn't always protect the minority," she said on CNN. "We were elected to make decisions."
Gregoire also talked with the Wall Street Journal about whether she'd talk personally with Christie.
"I would because I feel a good working relationship with Governor Christie. I respect him as a fellow governor, I have worked with him on a number of issues, so yea, I would feel very comfortable sharing with him, my personal journey the overwhelming response that I've received and how good I feel about myself today," she said. "I have not felt good about this issue and about where I stood for a number of years.
