Des Moines, Iowa - A Des Moines minister is catching heat for a sign on the church marquee that said "Gay is Not Okay."

Rev. Michael Demastus of the Fort Des Moines Church of Christ told the Des Moines Register that the Bible says gay people are having sex the wrong way.

"God created sex. He knows how it works," Demastus said.

Demastus said that gays are not Christians.

"You cannot be God-fearing and disobey God at the same time," he said.

The following Sunday, gay supporters rallied in the cold outside the church (where the sign had been refreshed to say "Adultery Is Not Okay.")

Patrick Boltinghouse told the Register that he was the one who posted a picture of the church's sign on Facebook last week, and he's furious.

"For someone to say ‘Gay is not OK' is pushing kids more in the closet. We're in the 21st Century. You'd think that gays could be part of humanity," he said.
