Springfield, Ill. - The State of Illinois' tourism website now has a new section that caters directly to gay and lesbian tourists.

The section is called "Pride Illinois" and goes beyond the usual calendar of LGBT Pride events.

It offers links to gay-friendly hotels and B&Bs all over the state, and also has information about gay and lesbian bars in Chicago and beyond.

The website also links to Illinois' gay and lesbian resources, including the Center on Halsted, Chicago Area Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Department of Human Rights. Plus media resources including Chicago's only LGBT news weekly Windy City Times, ChicagoPride.com and the now defunct Gay Chicago magazine.

Gov. Quinn said that the LGBT section of the tourism website makes human and economic sense.

"Our tourism website helps visitors map out their visits to Illinois by giving them information about the great places and activities Illinois has to offer," Governor Quinn said in a released statement. "Tailoring the site to meet the needs of LGBT travelers will help them make the most of their visit while supporting the growing Illinois tourism industry."

The website also touts the fact that Illinois legalized civil unions in 2011. This year, some state lawmakers are pushing for gay marriage with the introduction of the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act on Wednesday.
