GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney skipped event

Herman Cain, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry touted their conservative credentials, including opposition to marriage equality and abortion rights, Saturday during a banquet for social conservatives in Iowa.

An audience of nearly 1,000 Christian activists attended the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition's eleventh annual Fall Banquet and Presidential Candidates Forum in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Republican presidential contenders took to the stage to proclaim their commitment to conservative social issues, with all candidates agreed on eliminating abortion rights.

"No abortions, no exceptions," said Cain, who promised as president he would work to block abortion rights.

Bachmann, who has dropped in GOP polls since winning the Iowa straw poll earlier this year, said she supported a constitutional definition of marriage between one man and one woman. Both Bachman and Paul quoted from the Old Testament.

Gingrich talked about getting rid of "activists judges," which drew applause from the crowd.

Iowa's Christian conservatives are credited with ousting three Iowa Supreme court justices who helped legalize same-sex marriage in that state.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney did not take part in the event, which was televised nationally on C-SPAN.
