Key West, Fla. -
Swimmer Diana Nyad has abandoned her latest attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida.
Nyad, 62, spent more than 40 hours swimming among sharks before she gave up Sunday. She had been plagued by Portuguese man of war stings.
"It just took the life force out of me," she told the Associated Press.
Nyad is trying to become the first woman to swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage. She abandoned another attempt in August after 42 hours in the water.
Nyad is also a journalist who is a regular contributor to NPR's "All Things Considered."
