Washington, D.C. - Tea Party darling Michele Bachmann is revving her campaign for the Republican nomination into a higher gear, while trying to outrun her record on social issues like gay rights.

On FOX News Sunday, Bachmann tried to claim that she supported states' rights and thus supported New York's right to declare that gay marriage is legal. However, she also said there should be a federal law outlawing gay and lesbian marriage.

In her time as a Minnesota state lawmaker, Bachmann led efforts to outlaw gay marriage, and warned of dire consequences if it were approved: "K-12 little children will be forced to learn that homosexuality is normal, natural and perhaps they should try it."

She also has called homosexuality as "personal enslavement."

And she has said that depriving gays and lesbians of rights "is a very serious matter, because it is our children who are the prize for this community, they are specifically targeting our children."

According to People for the American Way, Bachmann also led a prayer meeting for the group "You Can Run But You Cannot Hide" and said that she'd like to expand their ministry beyond "what you can imagine"; an interesting statement, given that the group's leader supports execution of gays and lesbians.

Bachmann has also tried to link Sharia law and homosexuality as forces that are trying to undermine American society, People for the American Way said.
