Clinton, Iowa - 80-year-old Jean Argus of Clinton, Iowa, has posted a new YouTube video in which she defends her gay son and criticizes opponents of gay marriage.

During the three-minute video, Argus talks about raising her three children with the same values she grew up with.

"When our son came out to us, we were stunned, confused and angry. We wondered what we had done wrong as parents," she said. "Years later, when we saw the life our son had created with his future partner, I realized we had done nothing wrong as parents."

Argus said that she's proud of her state, but not proud of the way some Iowans have tried to prevent gays and lesbians from marriage.

She said that her son has been in a committed relationship for 30 years, and she was proud when she watched him and his partner get married in Massachusetts.

"My son is not an issue, he is a person just like you. He should not be made an object of your scorn," she said. "I am outraged by the way gay marriage is being used by some to further their own political ambitions. Discrimination affects all of us, not just me as the mother of a gay son."
