Washington, D.C. -
The Pentagon will release specific details on how troops will deal with the repeal of the ban on gay troops on Friday.
The military is expected to outline a three-part process for educating military members on how to integrate gay and lesbian troops, reports Stars and Stripes and The Washington Post.
The training program is intended to last three months. At the end of that time, the President and military leaders must "certify" that lifting the ban won't impede troop effectiveness.
Troops on the ground will get different training than commanders and administrators. Since the 2.2 million U.S. troops are spread around the world (literally in all 24 time zones), spreading information about this kind of change is a monumental effort.
The Washington Post reports that some changes will be relatively straightforward (like allowing same-sex partners to sign up for health benefits), while others, including insuring effective housing arrangements, will take far more time.
