Washington, D.C. -
President Obama has joined the thousands of adults recording "It Gets Better" videos directed at struggling LGBT youth.
In the video, posted on the White House blog, President Obama said that although he's straight, he remembers what it was like to feel ostracized as a teenager.
"I do know what it's like to grow up feeling like sometimes you don't belong," he said. "It's tough."
The "It Gets Better" Project was started by sex columnist Dan Savage. Hundreds of videos have been posted on the YouTube page.
President Obama encouraged gay and lesbian kids to reach out to people they trust.
"You are not alone," he said. "You didn't do anything wrong. You didn't do anything to deserve being bullied. And there is a whole world waiting for you, full of possibilities." He added, "There are people out there who love you and care about you, just the way you are."
