Today, 44th Ward Alderman Bennett Lawson released the following statement ahead of Sunday’s annual Pride Parade:

"Chicago’s 53rd annual Pride Parade is a chance to unite in celebration of our diverse LGBTQ+ community and allow everyone to embrace their true selves. In recent years, we’ve seen a troubling rise in hate towards our LGBTQ+ community and a concerted effort from state legislatures across the country to reverse the vital progress we’ve made in the fight for equality. Our Pride Parade is a beacon of joy in a critical moment, and it’s more important than ever that Chicagoans come together in solidarity."

"The City, Police Department, and various partners and organizations have engaged in extensive planning and dialogue for months leading up to this weekend, and I believe we’ve created an environment that is safe for attendees and neighbors both during and following the parade. I am grateful for the steadfast support and cooperation from the community to ensure the 2024 Pride Parade is a success."

This morning at 11:30 am, Alderman Lawson will join CPD Superintendent Larry Snelling at the Center on Halsted to discuss safety measures being taken for the parade. For more information about street closures, parking, and other logistics, visit https://www.44thward.org/resources/lgbt/.
