'Chicago is one of my top three cities to play in the world,' says Montanez
DJ Jesus Montanez makes his 2024 debut in Chicago this Saturday, January 27, with his south-of-the-border sound rocking Hydrate Nightclub, starting at 11 p.m.
“Chicago is one of my top three cities to play in the world,” said Montanez, who lives in Guadalajara.
He was last spinning in Chicago during Northalsted Market Days.
“I am very excited to come back after six months,” he said.
“You can expect a night full of energy Saturday, with a six-hour set. Expect a journey of my favorite tunes from house disco, to tribal and circuit, and everything in between.”
Montanez, 31, with 16 years of DJ experience, said he enjoys exploring Chicago, particularly its culture. He’s planning to visit The Art Institute of Chicago and gorge on world-famous Chicago-style, deep-dish pizza.
“Music is my life; I always play stuff that I love,” he said. “Every gig is different for me because I like to feel the room and go, but I always share my life, my roots, culture, experience and taste on music in every single performance.”
Montanez, an admittedly calm person, spends time at home with a set routine, especially with seven cats and two dogs. Afternoons are for his gym routine, he said.
“I love to walk around in Chicago, and it doesn’t matter if it’s winter or summer. I never get tired of walking around in downtown Chicago, looking at the different buildings that the city has.”
Montanez had a successful DJ season in 2023. “I took risks as an artist that I haven’t before,” he said. “I had a lot of fun playing all my gigs and I had time to spend with my loved ones. I think 2023 was the best year of my career because I felt more mature as an artist and person.
“I am ready to reach all my goals in 2024. I am excited for 2024 because as an artist I am exploring more my sounds and am working more in creative ways. I don’t want to be stuck in one sound, so I am working in different genres. My goal is to make new original music and get signed (by) my favorite labels.”
