New York City -
New York City police have arrested eight young men and are looking for a ninth suspect in three brutal attacks on gay men.
NYPD detectives said that that attacks took place last weekend. The suspects, members of a gang called "Latin King Goonies," turned on the first victim, a 17-year-old boy, because he was a member of their gang and they realized he was gay.
The second and third victims are also gay. They were trapped inside a vacant house, stripped, beaten, and sodomized with toilet plungers and a miniature baseball bat. One victim showed up naked on his family's doorstep, covered in blood and bound with tape.
The suspects are all between 16- and 23-years-old.
"Like many New Yorkers, I was sickened by the brutal nature of these crimes and saddened by the anti-gay bias that contributed to them," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. "The heartless men who committed these crimes should know that their fellow New Yorkers will not tolerate their vicious acts, or the hatred that fuels them."
