Hollywood - Universal Studios has pulled a trailer for the new Vince Vaughn comedy "The Dilemma" because the Vaughn character makes a gay joke.

In the scene, Vaughn's character is trying to explain what's wrong with electric cars, and he says they are "gay... not homosexual gay, but, you know, my-parents-are-chaperoning-the-dance gay."

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation had already complained to Universal Studios before the trailer was released.

"The use of the word ‘gay' in this trailer as a slur is unnecessary and does nothing more than send a message of intolerance about our community to viewers," said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios.

Apparently it took the suicides of several gay teenagers to get their attention.

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, who is hosting a town hall on the teen suicide issue, said the trailer is an example of the insidiousness of homophobia.

"I just find those words, those terms – we've got to do something to make those words unacceptable 'cause those words are hurting kids," he said.

Universal Studios has not said whether the scene would be in the final cut of the movie, which is about a man who finds out his best friend's wife is cheating on him.
