Indianapolis, Ind. - When some gay students from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) decided to order rainbow treats for National Coming Out Day, they thought it would be a simple request. But the folks at the first bakery they went to said: "No way."

The co-owner of "Just Cookies" bakery in Indianapolis first told the students that they couldn't have rainbow cupcakes because the shop is called "Just Cookies" ... and that's all they make.

But when the students asked for rainbow-frosted cookies, they were told to go elsewhere.

A reporter from FOX 59 WIXN who went to the shop to confirm the story was first told it was a matter of frosting colors-- the shop just didn't have enough.

But then the co-owner spilled the beans.

"I explained we're a family-run business, we have two young, impressionable daughters and we thought maybe it was best not to do that," said co-owner David Stockton.

The students eventually placed an order with another bakery with no trouble. National Coming Out Day is Oct. 11.

The television station said that IUPUI has no formal complaint against the bakery and that embracing diversity means that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, as long as they don't discriminate in the public sphere against anyone else.
