Gainesville, Fla. -
The planned Koran-burning isn't the first time Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove Center has targeted a group or person.
Jones also harasses Gainesville's openly gay mayor. Signs on the Center's lawn read "No Homo Mayor," in reference to Mayor Craig Lowe.
Lowe has chosen to fight fire with love, and has declared September 11th "Interfaith Solidarity Day."
German news magazine Spiegel reports Jones was ousted from a church he started in the western German city of Cologne. In the magazine, former members speak of his hate-filled sermons and insistence on "blind obedience." At one point he reportedly wanted to help a homosexual member "pray away his sins."
The plans of the 50-member Florida church to burn the Koran on Saturday have been condemned by just about every politician and religious leader.
General David Petraeus said the act will endanger U.S. troops in the Mideast.
