Beloved summer tradition returns June 10-12

Andersonville Midsommarfest returns June 10-12 after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers announced Thursday.

The vibrant and diverse north side neighborhood of Andersonville will again welcome over 75,000 people to celebrate the Swedish summer tradition with eclectic music, great vendors, food and free kids' activities.

Now in its 56th year, the annual event presented by the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce is one of the oldest and most beloved street festivals in Chicago.

Midsommarfest 2022 kicks off Friday, June 10 from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. along N. Clark St. from Catalpa to Foster Ave. and continues Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12 from 12 p.m. – 10 p.m.

New this year, Friday night's festivities will expand an additional three blocks from Catalpa all the way to Foster, instead of ending at Summerdale as in previous years.

This year's festival will feature more than 50 music and entertainment acts on five stages, kicking off Friday night with three stages: the North Stage at Clark & Catalpa, the Berwyn Stage and The Swedish Stage at Clark & Foster (sponsored by the Swedish American Museum).

Saturday and Sunday bring the addition of the Balmoral Pride Stage (sponsored by Replay Andersonville) and the Family Stage at Summerdale (sponsored by Rattleback Records).

New acts and returning favorites including Sixteen Candles, Rod Tuffcurls and The Bench Press, The Prince Experience and Dos Santos. The full entertainment line-up will be announced shortly, organizers said.

Admission to the Midsommarfest is a $10 suggested donation. Proceeds from admission and beer sales benefit the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, along with several local non-profit organizations including Babes With Blades Theatre Company, Care For Real, Friends of Andersonville, Friends of Chappel, local block clubs and others.

Historically, Andersonville has donated back more than $20,000 to these participating organizations.

Festivalgoers can also pick up a complimentary new copy of the 2022-23 Andersonville Neighborhood Guide at the Andersonville Chamber Booth located at Berwyn and Clark.

The three night, two day festival is produced by Star Events.
