Billboard reporting DJ (since Oct’94), Lydia Prim, may be the buzzword on every gay circuit boy’s lips these days. But she’s certainly no newcomer to the turntables. Born in Mongomery Alabama, she’s been playing in the Southern club scene since 1989 when she began her first residency at Pensacola’s Office. She quickly earned a loyal Southern fan base between such cities as Birmingham, New Orleans, and Atlanta, and Pensacola; playing regional venues like Oz, Backstreet, the Station, and the Bourbon Pub. In May of 1994, Lydia played the main event, Big Top, at Pensacola’s Memorial Day Weekend, which began a series of fairly important dance events that included: Chicago’s Hearts, Maimi’s Amnesia, New Orleans’ Decadance, and various Hotlanta parties. However, it wasn’t until 1999 at San Francisco’s Folsom Street that Lydia finally earned high accolades on a national level, for her performance at the closing party, Aftershock.

She has since become one of the most liked and talked about DJs in the country… not merely because she’s a female in a male dominated industry, but rather, because she is an incredible artist with a direct connection to the dance floor. It is often said that Lydia plays “like a man, more than a man does”. Her style is definitely all her own; incorporating an hypnotic soulful blend of tribal beats, progressive trance, and the perfectly timed anthemic vocals….all with a distinctive butch drippy-sexy edge, that is pure Lydia Prim. Her style practically oozes sex. Playing entirely on vinyl, her mixes are smooth, seamless, and intoxicating…her playful nature and sharp humor always evident in her spinning. She was recently voted The Circuit’s #1 DJ in 2001, by The Circuit Dog, a national cyber forum of several thousand club-goers.

In the summer of 2000, Lydia made her New York debut at the Hampton’s most anticipated social benefit of the year, the Empire State Pride Agenda’s Tea. She quickly followed this with a Sunday residency at Twilo in NYC, playing on the world famous Phazon Sound System. Her appearances have taken her across the continent to every major city in the United States and Canada. She has played such revered events such as Miami Winter Party, Philadelphia’s Blue Ball wkd, Southern Decadance, Hotlanta, New York Pride Alegria, Toronto’s prestigious Fashion Cares, Provincetown’s 4th of July Boat Cruise, San Diego Pride’s main event. Most recently, her sold-out and highly acclaimed performance at Chicago’s Crobar during Market Days already earned her a spot at Fireball’s Closing party, two years in a row. Playing before a (largely straight) crowd of 6,000 at Toronto’s 2001 Fashion Cares garnered her a regular spot in both Toronto’s and Montreal’s nightlife. Also 2001, Lydia Prim had the unique honor of sharing the turntables with her dear friend and colleague, Manny Lehman, at Miami’s Winter Party…not merely playing individual sets, but actually playing in tandem, as a team….a first for any major Circuit Party.

Lydia currently holds a monthly residencies at SBNY in New York, Nation in DC, and Coliseum in Fort Lauderdale. She is part of the Madtizzy Productions family, which also manages the talents of David Knapp, Manny Lehman, Billy Carroll, Barry Harris of Thunderpuss, Chris Cox of Thunderpuss, Ra, Chad Jack, & London’s Wayne G.
