Hollywood - It turns out that the real reason why "American Idol"'s ratings were soft this season was not because the show is in its ninth season, or because there were not any truly stand-out singers.

It's because Americans got sick of Ellen DeGeneres' "lesbian activism" -- at least that's according to christiannewswire.com.

Christian Newswire director Gary McCullough (who has a surprisingly large photo of himself attached to the story) wrote that American audiences are sick of the subtle promotion of an "alternate lifestyle."

McCullough's evidence for DeGeneres' role as a "lesbian activist" is a feeble joke she tossed out after a performance of "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman"; "Yes," she said, "I have."

Overall, Billboard reported that "American Idol"'s total viewership has dropped 8.25 percent since 2006. They attribute the decline to an uninspiring pool of contestants, lack of chemistry among the new judges, and the natural aging of the show.

McCullough, though, thinks that producers will fire DeGeneres to save the show.

"There will be no left wing social activist as a judge for the tenth season of American Idol," he writes. "Not only will DeGeneres be gone, she will not be replaced by anyone close to a Rosie O'Donnell wanna-be."
