Wright to be first major country star to come out, how will it impact her fan base?
Country star Chely Wright has been "outed" as the celeb who is "coming out" in People Magazine through a cover story on May 5.
Since PR guru Howard Bragman announced a high-profile celebrity is slated to come out, there has been so much buzz on who it might be. Qweerty, followed by TMZ, has solved the mystery.
Wright will also make an appearance on ABC's "The View."
Best known for her hits "Shut up and Drive" and "Single White Female", Wright is relatively unknown outside of country music.
The 39-year-old is the first major country star to come out of the closet and there is no telling whether or not this will affect her fan base, which tends to be more traditional and socially conservative than average.
The timing of the announcement is aligned with the release of her latest album, "Lifted Off The Ground" and a new book release, "Like Me" on May 4.
Wright once dated country star Brad Paisley.
