Philadelphia - For the first time that we know of, a candidate for office is being accused of pretending to be bisexual in order to get gay votes.

On Thursday Incumbent Rep. Babette Josephs (D., Philadelphia.) accused Democratic opponent Gregg Kravitz of pretending to be bi to get LGBT voters.

"I outed him as a straight person," Josephs said. "This guy's a gem. There will be cheating if he can get away with it, because he already has tried to lie to people about a whole bunch of stuff, including his sexuality,"

"That kind of taunting is going to make it more difficult for closeted members of the LGBT community to be comfortable with themselves" Kravitz told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "It's damaging."

Josephs also says her 29-year-old opponent is a "trust-fund baby." Josephs is a widow who has represented the district since 1984. She has been endorsed by Philadelphia's LGBT "Liberty City Democrats" and she worked to protect gay rights by voting against a proposed gay marriage ban. She also helped add sexual orientation to Pennsylvania's hate crimes law.

Kravitz says he is currently dating a woman. He has worked on Wall Street and for various other campaigns.

"My point was that in 2010, a person's sexuality is not an issue; the issue is record of achievement," Josephs told the Associated Press. "I am extraordinarily proud of my record of achievement on the LGBT community, which I do for the sake of good public policy and because it's right."
