You’ve Got a Busy Weekend

I hope that Market Days doesn't mean that Summer is over? We may have had some cool weather so far this summer, but I hope you've been making the most of it! Make sure you take time this weekend to enjoy what's left of summer!

THURSDAY, JULY 30

The Queer Zine Archive Project kicks off '3 Days, 1 kick-ass weekend' as 7 queer 'zinesters' travel across the midwest reading from their collected works. The 3-city tour starts at Uncle Fun Gallery - 1337 W Belmont at 7PM and then heads to Milwuakee on Friday and Madison on Saturday. Check out the site for full details.

Grab your bike and head on n a leisurely 6-mile ride through Lakeview with Alderman Tom Tunney, Lakeview residents, members of the Lakeview Citizens Council, Chicago Bicycle Amabassadors and police officers from the 19th and 23rd District. Who Gives a Shot? Well you can, and you can support the Center on Halsted while you're at it. Stop by Lakeviews newest edition: 44th ward Dinner Party at 3542 N Halsted and enjoy a Center on Halsted inspired Svedka Cocktail for $5. 100% of proceeds and tips benefit the Center, stop in between 6-8PM.

FRIDAY, JULY 31

Halloween is still a few months away but that doesn't mean you can't play dress-up. The Reeling: Lesbian Gay International Film Festival, which runs Nov 5-14 is hosting a special screening of 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?' AND costume contest. Dress as your best Joan Crawford or Bette Davis for a chance to win a Reeling Membership. Don't miss Touche's annual 'Cowboy Makeover Contest' starting at 11pm. Leather men will compete to be made over into a Cowboy for the evening. The winner will also receive 2 tickets to the upcoming Windy City Gay Rodeo. Pick up applications at the bar before the show.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 1

Women & Children First Books in Andersonville will be holding a used book sale from 10AM-6PM through Sunday, August 2.

RECESSION BUSTER Bigger and better than last year, now 8 miles of Chicago city streets will be blocked off and only available to bike traffic for this years Open Streets. Starting at Kedzie and Milwuakee and winding throug the city to end at 24th and California you'll have the chance to view the city like never before. You can join anywhere along the route from 8:30AM -2PM it's FREE

BLOWOFF! hits The Metro for the second time this year, just in time to coincide with Market Days. Bob Mould and Richard Morel will rock the house starting at 11PM and keep it going until 4AM. SUNDAY, AUGUST 2

Have you been over to Wicker Park to take in one of the hottest new Queer Parties - The Boys Room? Tonight they're hosting a Market Days After Party at Plan B - 1635 N Milwaukee starting at 8PM.
