Spring is in the air, we may not be able to have 70 degrees everyday, but at least we know that summer will soon be here. But then again - will we be complaining that it's too hot? There are definitely some hot things going on this weekend including FURR and CAKE Chicago at the Red Line Tap. Check out these hot hip happenings - you're sure to have a fun time.

THURSDAY, MARCH 19

The Writers Workshop will hold their fortnightly meeting at Gerber/Hart Library - 1127 W Granville at 7:30PM

Are you looking for something completely different to do tonight? Why not paint some ceramics at Glazed Expressions in Lincoln Park. When's the last time you picked up a brush and did something creative?

It's DJ Phil DaBeatz Birthday Bash at Minibar Ultra Lounge stop by after 10 to help him celebrate!

FRIDAY, MARCH 20

The day we've been waiting for since Hollywood Beach closed last year has finally arrived. The Vernal Equinox - the official start of Spring - begins at 6:45AM, just in time for your Friday morning commute. Huzzah! Spring has finally sprung.

Women & Children First Books - 5233 N Clark is hosting Elizabeth Flock, author of Sleepwalking in Daylight at 7:30PM.

The Buckminster Fuller show opened at the MCA last weekend, be one of the first in Chicago to gaze upon this truly future thinking artists work, the show is here through June 21.

Are you a budding filmmaker? Chicago Filmmakers - 5243 N Clark is holding an 'Open Screening' starting at 7:30PM. They'll show your work up to 20 minutes long. I showed my vacation video a few years ago, it's a great way to see some very interesting films.

SATURDAY, MARCH 21

The monthly Sappho's Salon event will take place at Women & Children First Books in Andersonville starting at 7:30PM. $7-10 includes food and wine. Get ready for some Lesbian Pulp Fiction with writers like Nell Stark, C.P. Rowlands and Anne Laughlin.

Stop by the Chicago Cultural Center's Claudia Cassidy Theater - 78 E Randolph at 2PM for their 'Independent Lens Series' where they will screen "Taking Root" a story of a Nobel Peace Prize winners simple act of planting trees is transformed into world changing events.

Supercalafragalistic - Mary Poppins is in town! Stop by Broadway in Chicago to get tickets for this new show. Even though the show doesn't "officially" open until next week I'm catching the show tonight and can't wait to tell you about it, maybe I'll see you there. Hurry up and get tickets because even though the show has been extended to July 12th you won't want to wait!

'Halfaouine: Boy of the Terraces' part of the 45th Chicago International Film series will be screened at the Chicago Cultural Center - 78 E Washington at 2PM today. Admission is free.

While you're downtown, stop by the Sunday Salon Series at the Chicago Cultural Center as the New Millennium Orchestra of Chicago performs chamber music including Mendelssohn's 'String Octet in E flat major, Opus 20

Scooty & JoJo are planning a fabulous Diva Brunch for you at The Spot - 4437 N Broadway. This week they're showcasing She Boom - the all female drum combo, ZaZa - female impresssionist extrodinaire and the sassy Elizabeth Bagby.
