Founded in 1997, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has multiple locations across the United States and is now finally in Chicago, Illinois. Known for food and drink service within a movie theater that sometimes sticks to the theme of the film projected in the room.

Customers write their orders on paper supplied inside a comfy reclinable chair and servers hunker down to not block the view as they run around. Buttons on individual tables alert the attentive staff when the patron is ready for more service. It is all a smooth oiled machine curated by the management team of this establishment.

Cell phones are prohibited and the screening rooms are referred to as a “quiet zone.” A throwback-style segment with a stern narrator is played before each film as a reminder.

There are six screens and 372 seats at the Alamo Drafthouse Wrigleyville, 3519 N Clark Street, Suite C301. The place is equipped with Cinionic 4k laser projectors and Dolby surround sound

A festive Video Vortex cocktail bar with art installations and a video rental opportunity with over 11,000 titles is right in front to greet guests as they enter the premises.

Founder Tim League hosted a celebration the night before the grand opening on January 26, 2023. Alderman Tom Tunney spoke a few words on the pink carpet before League revealed a commemorative plaque dedicated to esteemed director John Hughes. Above that area an impressive display of the classic Ferrari busting through glass inspired by the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off was created by Cory Morales from CMO Customs.

Hughes' son James spoke before one of the screenings that evening about the importance of the various Chicago locations in his father's work over the years.

Lucky attendees enjoyed showings of Hughes' many films accompanied by party favors, supplemental cocktails and award-winning cuisine. Try a bowl of churro popcorn, a 10-inch thin-crust pizza, or a Big Freakin' Cookie Shake.

"Where's the beef?" Well, it is right there on the menu!
