The hit music station 103.5 KISS FM hosted a Jingle Ball once again at Allstate Arena on December 5, 2022. Bouncing back at the same venue has allowed the iHeartradio team to make the annual event an incredible success over the years.
This year there wasn't the rotating stage as in the past so to distract from this commercials were displayed on the large screens instead while the acts alternated. Kidd's Kids, a nonprofit organization assisting children with illnesses, was highlighted as the event's official charity with videos projected throughout the programming. Ariana Grande's fragrance God Is a Woman Eau de Parfum was advertised there and Dunkin' Donuts commercials were shown among several other sponsors.
American Idol's Jax, unfortunately, fell ill before her opening set as she was slated to play her radio hit "Victoria's Secret." This left room for Tate McRae to bounce in with her new "Uh Oh" track and show why she is one to watch.
Nicky Youre brought his youthful good looks and boundless energy as he ran around while singing his upbeat tune "Sunroof."
Ava Max then entered the stage sporting a bright red outfit and strong dance moves. She began with "Kings & Queens," sprinkled in new material and ended with her Tiesto collaboration "The Motto."
Macklemore brought high energy to his set as he strutted all over the stage stating that Chicago is one of his favorite cities, even though Allstate Arena is actually located in Rosemont, Illinois. The "Thrift Shop" singer always entertains during a live show and promised to bring a new album when he returns to the area in 2023.
Kentucky artist Jack Harlow came after the Mack to take his followers on a "First Class" trip of his catalog. He was clearly dancing to the beat of his own drum machine with no backing band or dancers to support him. Jackman made a joke about having two white male rappers back to back on the bill. Between the two, Macklemore's seasoned experience outshone Harlow's laid-back tone for a crowd that anticipated more.
After nine o'clock the diversity improved with singer Khalid and his work from the American Teen album. He has grown as a live act since his previous appearance at the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom in 2017. He seemed much more confident and comfortable as he launched into his songs like "Young, Dumb and Broke" and "Talk." There was a missed opportunity of not having McRae return for their duet "Working" but his other songs went smoothly such as the favorite "Numb."
Miami Rapper arrived with much anticipation as the headliner that evening shaking his hips like Elvis with "Don't Stop the Party." One of the hardest-working men in show business, Mr. 305 had everyone screaming for more as his set went off without a hitch that night.
IMAX® and iHeartRadio's Z100 Jingle Ball Presented by Capital One 2022 teamed up to project this traveling jamboree on screens across the country on December 9 from Madison Square Garden, although with a slightly different lineup than the Illinois show.
