That Nun Should Run

Warner Bros. just released the fifth installment in The Conjuring series. In 2013, the horror film began with a bang thanks to Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga grounding the story in reality. It depicted supposed real life events in 1971 where Ed and Lorraine Warren came to save the Perron family from a haunting.
The Conjuring 2 tackled the Amityville mysteries and had some hair raising moments. The Annabelle spin offs had a few scares with Creation being the stand out, being set in an orphanage.
It was only a matter of time before The Nun was ready to teach a lesson in theaters after glimpses of a demonic nun appeared in The Conjuring 2.
The story is set in 1952 Romania and begins with two nuns being attacked by a spirit. A troubled priest played by Demian Bichir investigates bringing along a young nun in training for the ride. They meet a man named Frenchie who had found the body of a dead nun and all three are terrorized at the abbey.
I had high hopes for The Nun of course. I loved Taissa Farmiga from American Horror Story and Jonas Bloquet is charming as Frenchie. The story is the problem with too many pop out scares. It grew old quickly and The Nun ran out of gas.
How do you solve a problem like Irene? You could have kept her in a live abbey and not a ghost town. The tension of being trapped worked well for the first Conjuring and Creation. Farmiga has the chops to do more but is unfortunately wasted. Maybe her sister suggested she be a part of the franchise, but next time listen to your agent!
The Nun has a few scares, but this Nunn's childhood was scarier. I actually had snakes try to bite me at the campgrounds and were more frightening than the fake snake in The Nun.
People are running out to The Nun possibly preparing for Halloween, but save some time and wait for The Conjuring 3 that's in the works. I pray if the producers don't learn a lesson from this endeavor then I am going to spank them with a ruler!
