River Roast at 315 North LaSalle Street really knows how to cook. From the moment guests walk down the stairs to the open space and kitchen they can feel plunged into another world. Be prepared for a wait for the outdoor patio with the spectacular view of the water.

The real reason to visit is James Beard Award winner Chef Tony Mantuano's menu. After chatting with him over the years, this nice guy knows his American cuisine. Teaming up with executive chef John Hogan works well for this establishment and concept.

For cocktails start off with the Gates of Eden mixing gin, tequila, fennel, lime, and tonic together. For appetizers the shrimp and crab toast is excellent. A beet salad is the perfect way to warm up the palette before the main course.

Food runners roll out tables of food to carve tableside. A whole chicken served over potatoes is a must try. While a bit overwhelming in size, this is something that will inspire a return visit. There's even a boatload of vegetables to order if you are still hungry!

For dessert the chocolate peanut butter crunch is the best way finish off the night. My two favorite things, peanut butter and chocolate, combined together in just the right way.

On the weekends hit the new Blues & Brunch between 11:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The menu has been pared down and curated with such offereings as the rabbit & waffles along with a hangover soup. The music linuep can be found on the website and there is even a select number of after work music dates to jam to.
