Spring Awakening wakes up summer, grows more diversity

React Presents brought Spring Awakening to Addams-Medill Park June 9, 10, and 11 for the second year in a row.

The huge electronic dance festival had plenty of space to stretch out on. After being a bit cramped at Soldier Field, the area on 14th Street was a good home once again in 2017.

The Solstice Stage brought the big acts like Afrojack, Afrojack, Diplo, and Martin Garrix. Marshmello has come a long ways since he was running around Lollapalooza last year in terms of popularity and performance.

The Equinox Stage had several acts recently interviewed for ChicagoPride with Krewella, and Louis the Child bringing the beats. Die Antwoord brought the "Freaky" and were unique with an energetic performance that did not stop moving.

Many artists used fireworks, confetti, and explosions to engage viewers. There were carnival rides to entertain people and many food vendors to fill up stomachs. This was the festival to people watch and the diversity has grown even more as a safe place for the LGBT community. Costumes and creativity are encouraged making good photo ops.

Whether it was sitting in the shade relaxing or walking from stage to stage Spring Awakening felt more like summer awakening.
