Remember the days when popcorn, candy, and soft drinks were the only thing served at at the cinema? Those days are long gone.

The AMC theater chain continues to push the boundaries in what is offered to guests visiting their establishment.

In downtown Chicago there is a new location at Block 37, 108 N. State St. with 11 screens. On part of the property bar MacGuffins serves up tropical cocktails such as red sangria and mojitos. With the push of a button a follow up drink can be brought right to your seat.

Having a server that is not disruptive is important to the experience and this team has it down to an art form. They use a hand held device called an Orderman where they can input the food and drinks right at the table. This makes for a faster wait time. If diners arrive a little early everything can be settled and ready to go before the movie even starts.

The menu is extensive and some items are going to work easier than others. Hand made sushi rolls stuffed with crab and avocados are delicious but the large size doesn't make them easy to eat.

The buttermilk biscuit poppers were much easier and hit the spot. I wanted to roll in the honey butter!

Fig jam may seeem unusual to top a burger with but it makes for an interesting taste. The bacon 'n' ranch burger was excellent and the brioche bun was smooth and tasty.

For something healthier try the chopped cobb salad with every ingredient you need or for a different palette the grilled chicken quinoa bowl brings a lot to the table. Who doesn't love a little rainbow quinoa?

For a sugary dessert sample the bite sized doughnuts with a salted caramel dipping sauce. A made from scratch milkshake with the orange cream flavoring was simply a dream.

Finding a home on the top floor of the Block 37 mall seems like the perfect spot for a movie theater in the Loop. Sitting in the front room of a recent screening had me worried but that washed away as I reclined all the way back and felt like I was part of the action. Timing the opening this new location with the Star Wars debut was brilliant and will give fans a chance to experience things early on.

With service and options like these take a break from shopping to drop into the AMC today.
