'5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche' is brilliant

Lesbe-honest, Chicago Commercial Collective's remount of New Colony's underground hit 5 Lesbian's Eating A Quiche is one of the funniest evenings you will ever spend in a subterranean baking bunker. After its sellout run in 2010 then an off-Broadway transfer of equal success, the Lesbians return, pretty much in tact, now at the lower level of the Chopin Theatre, which is the perfect venue for what transpires during the course of the play.

The premise is simple: The year is 1956 and the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein has gathered for the annual judging of the best quiche. As the audience is part of the society, each with our own emasculated name-tag (I was Eleanor) the quiche judging begins, double entendres ensue as the end of world approaches.

Spryly directed by Sarah Gitenstein, this united cast of six (Kate Carson-Groner, Caitin Chuckta, Rachel Farmer, Megan Johns, Thea Lux and Elise Mayfied) know the work so well that they have become masters at building up and dissecting small moments or united as one unit for entire vignettes. Within all the humor, there is an incredible truth that emerges in the power of self, which these ladies bake to perfect edification.
