State Reps. Greg Harris, Deb Mell, and Kelly Cassidy filed a marriage equality bill in Illinois General Assembly Wednesday.

"I am proud to be able to take this next important step towards full equality for our community with Reps. Harris and Mell," Rep. Cassidy told ChicagoPride.com. "It is past time for our relationships and our families to be fully recognized and protected under the law."

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled 2-1 Tuesday that Proposition 8, California's ban on marriage for gay and lesbian couples, is unconstitutional and a violation of the civil rights of gays and lesbians.
