Adrian Cano talks fitness, gummy bears, Britney Spears and wearing a jockstrap

Adrian Cano is, admittedly, very superstitious.
For instance, Friday the 13th is, to Cano, "a day of positive things and good luck."
If he spots a penny on the ground, he picks it up, always, "as that too I've always found to be a sign of good fortune."
Cano, originally from Mexico City, has been living in the Chicago area for 15 years, the last four in Lakeview. He has a diverse working background – experience in the hospitality services industry and the commercial construction industry. Plus, he is a 5-star Uber driver, which he said, "is always an adventure (because) you never know who you will meet."
"When not working, I enjoy spending quality time with my loved ones, family and friends alike," Cano said. "I also can be found six days a week at the gym, (or) the movie theater, shopping, trying new restaurants or even at the club or a bar.
"Most of my free time, I really enjoy being at the health club working on my fitness goals and plans. I created a routine that covers six days each week with six different phases. Each phase lasts for two weeks, giving a muscle group extra emphasis with the weights. It works the whole body for a total fitness concept that yields results I really like.
"I also try to eat healthy, but sweets are still a weakness for me. We all need a little sweetness in our day, right? So many gummy bears, so little time."
Cano regularly goes to Hydrate Nightclub in Boystown because, he said, "I see it bringing together so many different types of people, with different backgrounds."
Cano added, "Sharing music is such a great way to make new friends and often something that's universal to us all. The DJs (at Hydrate) are usually amazing. Sometimes, though, we go out for a more relaxing time and then I'll just enjoy a (glass of) wine or craft cocktail at any number of local spots."
Cano said he enjoys steaks at Mastro's or the tuna tartar at RPM. The Tacos Pastor from Salsita in Lakeview also are a Cano favorite, along with fresh quesadillas from a street market or festival.

Favorite Holiday: Christmas – "It's a time of year that brings everyone together for so much shared fun."
Star-gazing: Britney Spears is his favorite celebrity. "I've seen her in concert more than anyone else," he said. "I haven't met her yet, but would love to, if anyone has a connection."
Dream Vacation: Morocco. "It has such an interesting culture and history to me; it also carries a little bit of mystery and mystique."
Favorite Music: Circuit music or house music. He wants high-energy music because, "I love to dance."
Pizza: "I can't deny it, I love pizza. The best toppings have to be ham, pineapple and jalapenos for a sweet and spicy kick."
Serious Speaking: "If I could share one important topic with our community, it would the knowledge I have about PrEP and how important it is in defending our health as a community. It seems like (PrEP) still carries some stigma and many still don't realize it can be prescribed basically for free. I hope to make a great impact in the future spreading awareness, especially within the Latin community."
Now Wearing: "I guess it wouldn't be an interview without the common, 'What type of underwear do you wear?' question ... I typically wear briefs, but lately have been attracted to, or wear, more and more jockstraps. Tops can wear them too, right?"
