DADT hearing postponed

Washington, DC - Thursday, February 11, 2010, the Senate Armed Services Committee was to hold further hearings on Don't Ask Don't Tell (DADT) following last week's explosive testimony by Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mike Mullen where both advocated the repeal. This hearing has been postponed due to the heavy, paralyzing snow storm in the District.

The greatly anticipated hearing follows comment over the past week where a virtual "Who's Who" of politicians, news organizations and military leaders, including former Secretary of State Colin Powell and the conservative Fox News Channel, came out in support of repeal of the 1993 bill.

Central east coast extreme winter weather, which delivered over 2 feet of snow over the weekend with another foot on the way today and tomorrow, has virtually shut down Washington, DC and the operations of the House and Senate have come to a halt for the week. Today it was announced that all House votes for the week have been canceled.
