City issues traffic alert for area north of downtown; encourages public transportation

Chicago, IL - More than 2 million people are expected this weekend for the Chicago Air and Water Show, so expect large crowds along Chicago's Lakefront.

The two-day show, now in its 51st year, begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday along the lakefront at North Avenue Beach. The city has issued a traffic alert for the area just north of downtown, which includes Lakeview and the Boystown area.

Traffic along Lakeshore Drive, near North Avenue, Fullerton and Belmont is expected to be especially congested. The city is encouraging people to use public transportation.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds headline this year's event and includes the U.S. Army Golden Knights, the U.S. Navy's Leap Frogs and more.
