Scene and be Seen

Chicago, IL - Market Dazed: Isn't it just like str8 people to take something as sacred as Market Daze and turn it into a hetero haven? They've been doing it slowly for years, but this year was the straightest I've ever seen it. Oh, I'm not complaining………with it also came a lot of eye candy for MZ Kii Kii. I even got a chance to walk off with some fish's boyfriend who was "just curious"………Just curious? What is that, the name of a new type of breath mint ? But I digress. Hands down me thinks the party of the weekend goes to Tracy Young and Circuit Nightclub. With a new DJ booth and fierce opening set by Tom McBride things couldn't get better. They even had the sound back. Supposedly this booth is just the beginning in the construction phase of the new and improved Cirquito. We've heard that line for a long time, but now the club actually has the city permits to move ahead with construction. Also noted for fun under the sun was the Rosabel team playing outside at Hydrate on Market Sunday afternoon. An industry who's who showed up to hear the Cha Cha connection throw down. Mucho Caliente!

AND IN THIS CORNER!: It seems the gloves are off in the fight for Monday nights; I reported here last issue of Lego leaving Red Dog to entertain his new residency at Zentra on Monday nights along side Maurice Joshua and Lu Lu (playing all the Span-glish versions of every obnoxious yester-hit he can find). Thinking ahead, the Boom Boom dog pound has now picked up Chicago heavyweight Mark Picciotti to team up with Freddie Bain. Anyone taking bets on the winner? Freddie pulls hair and punches like a girl, so who knows. What's up with Domaine? Why can't they hold onto their DJ's for more than a couple of months? They had a cute line up with names like Jungle Jorge, Greg Norwood, and Eric Daly. Jungle and Greg are no more due to some shady management (or lack there of), and they haven't had a successful night really since they've opened. It's too bad because the club HAD a lot of potential.

Pistachio Fridays has commenced down at Circus Night Club. The feel is mainstream gay mixed with a Latin flare. DJ's Chris Eterno, Oskar and Orlando G have been working this night for coins in a cute way. Frankie Knuckles starts his Sunday extravaganza at Hydrate on September 8th. Halsted St. is all a Buzz about the re-birth of House music in its corridor. Popping up around Chicago are a series of "Ladies" First gigs. "What the hell is that?" you ask? Ladies first is a group consisting of Chicago's fiercest female House DJ's that throw down like no other group of ladies can. (Look out, SuperJane). DJ Alena, Brenda D, DJ Shani, and Janel Roland laid it down on August 23rd at Harry's Velvet room.

So what else is coming our way over the Labor Day holiday? August 29th sees the H-Foundation (Hip-E and Halo) playing at SmartBar. On August 31st Spundae at Vision hosts DJ Mazi. On September 5th Derrick Carter tickles the turntables at Zentra from Rob Panczuc's birthday. Rob is the music force behind Zentra's successful DJ line up. September 6th brings together Chicago's best dance troops in a DANCE FOR LIFE extravaganza. Dubbed as the Midwest's largest AIDS fundraising event, it is sure to have Navy Pier jumping. Lastly, watch waaaayyy down the line for Chicago's official Pimps and Ho's Halloween party on November 1st. That's it for now. Remember kids, if you're going back to school next week you should always have several #2 pencils handy. One for you, and the others for the teacher to sit on!
